Checking In

You can always tell when we're busy because I won't get to blogging for a day or two or four at a time. Hopefully I don't go four days very often, but when the pets start calling - we're called to action! Throw baseball games and election debates into the mix and I had zero time.

I spent a few nights with the Mastiff's this week also. We'll be profiling these two girls soon, so stay in touch! But as for the past few days I can sum that up by saying - Me, Boatee, Latte, 1 bed. I woke up in the middle of a horrible nightmare afraid that I had become paralyzed in my sleep~ NOPE! It was just the 180 pound Latte making a nest on top of my legs. I'll have to explain to these two that they are NOT lap dogs.

Meg is with a new client named Indiana...Jonesie for friends and family. He did good his first night and really seems to dig staying home, throwing parties...I mean 'watching the house'...and spending his time with Meg.

We had a few meetings today as well, and met some really great dogs. A puggle named Maximus, a Chiuahua named Nieve and a Pug named Jonesie Boggs.. Great names and great dogs (and puppies) all and we look forward to caring for them during their upcoming service requests.

I'm home with the Pigs (Brady and Nina and Lennon) - we had a great fetch session in the yard tonight after work. They are terriers at heart and need to be allowed to be terriers, and so we try to give them as many opportunities to be so as we can. Ball fetch, stick fetch and oh yes!, swim fetch is the BEST! For two terriers, they love the water more than any Lab! Lennon came outside with us but just hung around. As much as she seems to think she's a dog, she hasn't yet found any interest in chasing sticks and balls and sprinkler water!

I'll check in on Sunday night. I already know that I won't be getting back until then. Friday and Saturday are cookin'!

HSH PetCare Profile: Leia

Just getting a few words down before I go to walk our little Princess Leia. Leia's mom works nights and so Leia is stuck at home without any company and needs to get out about halfway through, so we head out on her nights to make her time a little shorter and a little more fun. She's a great little girl, a Cairn Terrier, only about 8 months old now. Its been a joy to see her grow over the past 5 months or so as we've been walking her since she came home with mommy that first week - back in the day when she couldn't even climb the stairs! She's a little bulldog now, bounding, and jumping, even if she can't get somewhere she won't give up very easily--she's a terrier! She loves to chase down the moths and fireflies when we walk and barks at strange noises as if she were 120 pounds! You'll here about Leia from time to time, so now you have an idea of who we're talking about! Stay tuned for more HSH Pet Profiles!

In more general news, we recently adopted 2 green eared slider turtles from a client of ours. We've transferred them into a 55 gallon tank as they had just about outgrown their previous tank but in doing so have had to use more water and thus outgrown the filter that came with it. We haven't been able to find a filter that can keep the tank 100% clean (at least looking clean as its virtually impossible to keep an aqua tank actually, perfectly clean). The last recommendation we received was to install an actual 'pond' filter, like you might find from Home Depot. If our current 55 gallon standard aqua filter doesn't work, that will be our next move. I've gotten lots of great advice from friends and online turtle aficianados, but if anyone has experience with turtles, we're always open to general commentary and advice. We want them to be as happy and healthy as they can possibly be so feel free to share!

The Amazing Adventures of Bum and Peanut

As many of you know and as you can quickly learn by checking out our 'about us' page, we have two pigs (not literally), Brady(Bum) and Nina(Peanut). As the spoiled rotten children of two traveling pet care providers, they have made it very clear that they are not too keen on spending their days cooped up at home while Mom and Dad frolic and play and visit animals from all walks of life. How offensive to come home smelling like other animals while the closest me and Peanut come to animal interaction is watching Animal Planet repeats!" said Brady  as we discussed all the changes our family would undergo with this new business venture.

And so we try to include them in as much of our travels as possible. (It wouldn't make sense to have a pet care company that forces us to leave our pets alone at home now would it?) NO. So we bring them with us whenver we can. And these are the amazing adventures of Bum and Peanut. Whether they are joining us on our walks or accompanying the caravan to one of our field trips, these two come home to a nice, warm, full size mattress with nap time written all over it (Yes, they literally have their own full size mattress in case you were wondreing).

Today they were with me and participated in a walk/playtime session with 2 of our favorite clients (and 2 of B & P's best friends) Mac and Eire! Oh the stories you will read about these two. Really about all four. Eire's fetch ball obsession, Nina and Mac's sweet nothings and dog cookie sweet hearts, and Brady's investigation of foreign grounds. They also came with me today as I bebopped around town and we all had great fun.

Hybrid Blogging

Did I not mention that I'm an avid Boston area sports fan? Well I am. And for that I will apologize in advance to anyone who's not interested is such and just wants to keep up with the pet industry and HSH in general. I can't help it. Sports related topics are bound to ooze their way in to this blog. Hybrid Blogging if you will....And a-seguaying we go! --- Let's go sox! ---  I won't bore even the sports fans that might be reading with analysis and predictions as I save that energy for the sports talk radio airwaves. Tune in to WEEI and you might here Chris from Windsor chiming in. - Which gives me an idea...how about pet talk radio! There are more pet people in this country than there are sports fans if you can believe that! (Not a fact. I made it up for the purpose of this blog's anticipated distribution)

All kidding aside, this brings me to a likeminded topic that IS entirely related to pet care. Has anyone out there found a facility or organization in the Greater Hartford area to enroll the babies in an agility course/training? Our pigs (Brady an AmStaff and Nina our Staffybull) are not all that cut out for it but we've had a few clients inquire lately. I'm sure most are slowing down with the cold season approaching and there's always the internet anyway. I'm more or less looking for a recommendation to pass along..

In daily news, everyone's walks/visits went well. I was pressed a little bit for time today as we picked up a 1 hr. visit late last night. As it turned out, I had a midday cancellation as well and so things were smooth from there on out.

Entries here will begin to get more topical. Right now, just some light rambling --- Who snickered with a "pshht - light rambling my ass." I heard you.

New blog, New clients, New site!!!

Greetings All!

Our new website is up and running! Thanks to Joe Media Solutions for all the great work! Joe continues to chip away at some final touches but Meg and I really appreciate his diligence in getting a functional site up for you all to visit!

I'll be tending to this blog as frequently as I can, keeping you all updated on our day to day operations, issues, events, conundrums, and often interjecting with stories from "the walks!" That's right, everyday one of our wonderful, daily, walking, companions gives us somethng to smile about - and we can't wait to share them with you!

Whether its Eire trying to track us in the direction of the school for some fetch - despite the downpour of rain, or Balthazar's rampant demands that he be properly fitted with new booties each month, these pets that we're so fortunate to take care of on a daily basis, have enough personality to entertain everyone that visits our homey little site! Check out these new friends of ours on the 'client' page and put a face to that idiosyncratic behavior!

We encourage you all to partcipate in this Pet Care blogging experience, and as we'll be costantly improving our site and services, hope that you'll visit often to see what's new with Home Sweet Home Pet Care Providers!
